Here is a cheerful, full-body Santa Claus coloring page showing his big beard, pom-pom stocking hat, and a full sack slung over his shoulder. Download the free printable PDF below to set out with a box of crayons or pencils.
This Santa Claus coloring page shows the classic holiday character standing full length with a full beard, a stocking hat tipped with a fluffy pom-pom, and a heavy sack over one shoulder. Because the shapes are generous and uncluttered, this coloring book page is a friendly pick for preschoolers while still leaving plenty of room for older kids to shade the coat, boots, and sack with colored pencils or crayons.
Where the familiar Santa image comes from
The figure we recognize in stories and holiday costumes grew out of several traditions. In the United States, the 1823 poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas" popularized the sleigh, reindeer, and cheerful demeanor, while the bright red suit with white fur trim became standard through nineteenth- and mid-twentieth-century book and advertising illustration.
Coloring and printing tips
- Paper weight: Use regular 20 lb (80 gsm) copy paper for crayons and colored pencils, or print on 65 lb (160 gsm) cardstock so wet markers do not bleed through.
- Print scale: The PDF download is sized for US Letter at 100% scale in black and white, and you can print it on A4 paper using the fit to page setting.
- Leaving white space: Encourage kids to leave the beard, pom-pom, and coat trim mostly white, adding just a soft touch of pale blue or light gray pencil along the edges for depth.
- How it is made: You can read more about how my coloring pages are made here on the site.
