What we know about Brachiosaurus

Brachiosaurus lived during the late Jurassic, around 154 to 150 million years ago. It was a sauropod, or long-necked plant-eating dinosaur, with front legs longer than its hind legs, a high shoulder line, and a relatively small head. The original Brachiosaurus fossils came from Tanzania; related brachiosaurids are known from other regions.

  • Adults were roughly 18 to 22 meters long, with estimates varying by species and reconstruction.
  • Its nostrils were positioned high on the skull, a feature that helped make it look especially tall.
  • It lived long before humans and long before Tyrannosaurus rex.

Coloring and printing tips

  • Print at 100% on US Letter; for A4, select fit to page or shrink to fit.
  • Crayons suit the wide neck and body. Colored pencils can add bark lines and leaf detail.
  • Plain paper from 65-90 lb or 90-160 gsm works well; use cardstock for markers.
  • Make the leaves varied greens, or turn the scene into a sunset with warm sky colors.
