A cauldron, a small fire, and three curls of steam. Print the PDF for an afternoon at the table.
A round cauldron stands on three short legs over a small fire, with a wooden spoon in it and three curls of steam rising from the rim. The pot is the largest shape on the page, so it suits kids around four to eight who like to fill a big area with one color. Crayons cover the belly fastest. Colored pencils let you shade the curve so the pot reads as metal instead of a flat circle.
Why three legs
A pot with three legs does not wobble. Set it on uneven ground and all three feet still touch, which is why three-legged pots and kettles turn up in old kitchens and at campfires alike. A round bottom lets heat move around the sides instead of concentrating in one spot, and it leaves a cook room to push coals underneath. The spoon is drawn plain, with nothing dripping from it, so a child can decide what the pot holds.
Coloring and printing tips
- Print at 100% scale, black and white, on US Letter. On A4, choose "fit to page".
- The steam curls and the spoon handle carry the thinnest lines. Use a sharp pencil there.
- A gray pencil down the left side of the pot and a lighter one on the right is enough to suggest a curve.
- Cardstock (65 lb / 160 gsm) holds up to marker across the big pot area.
- Color the fire last, or draw a stone floor underneath instead.
Pages that go with it: the pumpkin patch fills a wide scene, and the graveyard scene has an iron fence to work through. The rest wait in the Halloween coloring pages.
