Pumpkin Patch Coloring Page With Five Curly Vines

Five pumpkins of different sizes on curly vines with a wooden fence behind, free printable coloring page

Five pumpkins, curly vines, and a fence to fill in. Print the PDF and start wherever you like.

Five pumpkins of different sizes sit along a row of curly vines, with a wooden fence behind them. The smallest is about the size of a fist and the largest takes up a third of the page, which gives a child something to compare. Broad outlines and simple ribs make this one comfortable for ages four to nine, and the fence boards offer straight edges for anyone still learning to fill an area evenly. Crayons suit the pumpkins. Pencils suit the vines.

From flower to pumpkin

A pumpkin starts as a flower. The vine opens separate male and female blossoms, and a female blossom sits at the tip of a tiny green fruit. Bees carry pollen from one to the other, and once a female flower is pollinated the little fruit begins to swell. Unpollinated blossoms drop, so a healthy vine can open plenty of flowers and set only a few pumpkins. Through the season the shell shifts from green to orange, the ribs deepen, and the stem thickens and turns woody.

Coloring and printing tips

  • Print at 100% scale in black and white. On A4, choose "fit to page" so the fence does not run off the edge.
  • The fence rails are long straight runs. Color them one direction and the boards look like wood.
  • Shade down one side of each rib, and the pumpkins stop looking flat.
  • Copy paper (20 lb / 80 gsm) suits crayons. Markers need cardstock (65 lb / 160 gsm).

More for the same week: the candy corn page keeps the shapes even simpler, and the witch cauldron has a little fire to fill in. There are more in the full Halloween set.
