What we know about Diplodocus
Diplodocus lived in western North America during the late Jurassic, roughly 154 to 152 million years ago. It was a sauropod with a long neck, a very long tail, a small head, and peg-like teeth at the front of its jaws. Some species reached about 24 to 27 meters long, with much of that length coming from the tail and neck.
- Its fossils are part of the Morrison Formation in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and nearby regions.
- The tail may have acted as a balance and could have been moved quickly, although its exact use remains debated.
- Diplodocus lived tens of millions of years before humans.
