What we know about Pteranodon
Pteranodon was a pterosaur, a flying reptile that lived alongside dinosaurs during the late Cretaceous, about 86 to 84 million years ago. It was not a dinosaur. Pteranodon had toothless jaws, a long pointed crest, and wings supported by an elongated fourth finger. Its wingspan may have reached roughly 5 to 7 meters in large individuals.
- Fossils are especially well known from Kansas and other parts of the central United States.
- It likely lived near inland seas and probably ate fish and other small prey.
- Its wing membrane stretched from the elongated finger toward the body and hind limbs.
