What we know about Mosasaurus
Mosasaurus lived in marine environments during the late Cretaceous, roughly 82 to 66 million years ago. It was a mosasaur, a large predatory marine lizard with powerful jaws, conical teeth, flippers, and a tail adapted for swimming. Different species varied in size; some reached around 12 meters or more.
- Fossils have been found in marine rocks on several continents, including North America and Europe.
- Mosasaurs breathed air and were not fish, despite living in the sea.
- They lived alongside dinosaurs but belonged to a separate reptile group.
