What we know about Dilophosaurus
Dilophosaurus wetherilli lived in what is now Arizona during the Early Jurassic, roughly 193 to 183 million years ago. It was a meat-eating theropod with two delicate crests on the skull, a long neck, and a slender body. The known animal was around 7 meters long, though estimates depend on the specimen.
- The paired crests may have been used for display, not as horns for combat.
- Fossils have been found in the Kayenta Formation of northern Arizona.
- There is no good evidence that Dilophosaurus had a neck frill or spit venom; those are movie inventions.
Coloring and printing tips
- Print at 100% on US Letter; use fit to page or shrink to fit when printing on A4.
- Colored pencils help with the narrow crests and small stones; crayons suit the body and plants.
- Choose 65-90 lb paper or 90-160 gsm, and cardstock for markers.
- Use a bright crest color, then keep the riverside background in softer greens and blues.
