Real-world penguin facts to share while coloring
- No polar bear neighbors: Penguins live in the Southern Hemisphere and Antarctica has no native land mammals, so polar bears and penguins never meet in the wild.
- Sizes vary widely: Depending on the species, real penguins range from roughly a foot tall to about four feet tall.
- Feather colors: While you can color the striped scarf and small hat in any bright shades you like, real penguin feathers are mostly black and white with patches of yellow or orange on the beak and feet.
Coloring and printing tips
- Paper recommendations: Print on 20 lb (80 gsm) copy paper for crayons and pencils, or step up to 65 lb (160 gsm) cardstock if your kids prefer juicy markers.
- Print scale: Each US Letter PDF prints in black and white at 100% scale, and fits A4 paper when you choose fit to page in your printer dialog.
- Keeping black feathers neat: Instead of pressing hard with a black crayon, try dark gray on the penguin's wings so the black outline stays visible.
- Free for group tables: Feel free to print copies for personal, classroom, or homeschool use (never for resale); check the site disclaimer for details.
