Allosaurus crouching among ferns and rocks with eye crests, free printable coloring page

What we know about Allosaurus

Allosaurus lived in western North America during the late Jurassic, roughly 155 to 145 million years ago. It was a meat-eating theropod with a large skull, blade-like teeth, three-fingered hands, and paired crests above the eyes. Adults were often around 8 to 10 meters long, with larger estimates for some specimens.

  • Its skull was lighter than the massive skull of Tyrannosaurus, with openings that reduced weight.
  • Fossils are especially common in the Morrison Formation of the western United States.
  • Allosaurus lived millions of years before Tyrannosaurus rex.

Coloring and printing tips

  • Print at 100% on US Letter, or select fit to page or shrink to fit on A4.
  • Colored pencils help with teeth, claws, and fern veins; crayons cover the rocks and body.
  • Use 65-90 lb paper or 90-160 gsm. Choose cardstock for markers.
  • Try a deep green fern background with a lighter body so the silhouette stays clear.
