What we know about Stegosaurus
Stegosaurus lived in western North America during the late Jurassic, roughly 155 to 150 million years ago. It was a plant-eating dinosaur with a small head, a low body, tall back plates, and four long spikes at the end of its tail. Adults were commonly around 7 to 9 meters long, though estimates vary among species and specimens.
- The plates were made of bone and stood upright along the back.
- Fossils have been found in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, and other parts of the Morrison Formation.
- Stegosaurus lived millions of years before Tyrannosaurus rex.
