A witch, a broom, and a cape with somewhere to go. Print the PDF and start with the hat.
A friendly witch rides a broomstick across the page in a pointed hat, her cape streaming out behind her. Small stars and a thin crescent moon fill the sky. Her face is calm and nothing here is frightening, so the page suits children around four to eight and adults coloring beside them. Crayons and pencils are easiest; markers work on cardstock.
Costume shapes, and how they hang
The hat and cape are drawn the way costume pieces actually sit on a body. A wide brim keeps a tall hat steady, and a cape fastened at the shoulders lifts away from the arms instead of wrapping them, which is why the fabric trails behind her. If someone is dressing up this month, the same holds: fit the hat to the head, not to a wig.
- A deep cape with a lighter lining reads as fabric. One flat color reads as a shape.
- The stars are small. A yellow pencil keeps their points; crayon softens them.
- The hat band is the one place a bright color will not overwhelm the page.
Coloring and printing tips
- Print at 100% scale, black and white, on US Letter. On A4, select fit to page.
- Copy paper (20 lb / 80 gsm) for crayons and pencils; cardstock (65 lb / 160 gsm) for markers.
- Leave the crescent white and color the sky around it, or the moon disappears.
- Shade the underside of the cape and leave the top edge pale, and it starts to look like it is moving.
The friendly ghost coloring page shares this open sky, and the haunted house coloring page makes a good next page. More are on the Halloween coloring pages hub. Free for personal, classroom, and homeschool use, not for resale; the terms of use cover the details.
