What we know about Ankylosaurus
Ankylosaurus lived in western North America during the late Cretaceous, about 68 to 66 million years ago. It was a plant-eating armored dinosaur with rows of bony plates, horn-like projections on the skull, and a large tail club. Adults may have been around 6 to 8 meters long, with body mass estimates varying considerably.
- Its armor included osteoderms, bony structures embedded in the skin.
- Fossils are known from Montana, Wyoming, and Alberta.
- The tail club was made from strengthened vertebrae and tail bones, not a separate metal-like weapon.
Coloring and printing tips
- Print at 100% on US Letter, or choose fit to page or shrink to fit for A4.
- Colored pencils are handy for each armor plate; crayons cover the broad body and ground.
- Use plain 65-90 lb paper or 90-160 gsm. Select cardstock for markers.
- Try earthy greens and browns, then add brighter ferns or patterned armor plates.
- Leave a narrow white edge around the outline if you want the armor to stand out from the background.
