What we know about Iguanodon
Iguanodon lived during the Early Cretaceous, roughly 126 to 122 million years ago, with related species found across parts of Europe. It was a large plant-eating ornithopod with a beak-like mouth, grasping fingers, and a prominent thumb spike. Many estimates place adults around 8 to 10 meters long, though size varied.
- The thumb spike may have helped with defense, but its exact use is not certain.
- Fossils have been found in Belgium, England, Spain, and other European locations.
- Iguanodon could move on two legs or four, depending on the activity and interpretation.
Coloring and printing tips
- Print at 100% on US Letter, or use fit to page or shrink to fit for A4.
- Colored pencils are useful around the fingers and leaves; crayons suit the larger body.
- Plain 65-90 lb paper or 90-160 gsm works well. Choose cardstock for markers.
- Make the thumb spike a contrasting color so it is easy to spot in the finished drawing.
